Kyle Carter was being shoved into his room when he saw her.

After fixing his stupid Windows 97 computer and recovering the document, the Omniscient Narrator tries, and fails, to delete the flashback. The story seems to require this piece of information to continue the story. He wonders momentarily what the Required Access Memory was supposed to do in the first place…
The Omniscient Narrator shrugs, choosing to forget the irony of the previous statement, and re-formats the automatically inserted flashback for the reader’s ease.

Flashback

Wandering around a sleeping space ship had just started getting unbearably boring for Kyle.

The war
soon caused the ten major civilizations of the galaxy to split into three parties: Also known as the MIP, the Mutual Interest Party’s priority was to set up a democratic government in which representatives from every celestial body came together in a manner similar to that of the US government (and for those of you who do not know what this is like, click over to Wikipedia while you’re online). The other two parties are the New People’s Monarchy Party, and the In-Between Party, whose existence, as far as anyone else knew, was completely unknown. When asked about them, people of the first two parties who were heavily engaged in this sort of thing would snort and wave them off as a group of civilizations that came together and called themselves a party purely to avoid being bothered to join one of the others.

Second draft

Kyle Carter was being shoved into his room when he saw her.
The halls, and everything else, were sleek and white, and reminded him of an old movie – 2001: A Space Odyssey.
“Interviewing time is over, Carter,” said a man in a white suit, only this suit had a green rose tucked into the lapel, which was the first non-white clothing accessory he’d seen in his time here. This new man was holding Kyle by the arm with a lot more strength than seemed possible. Kyle was getting annoyed with the unnecessary violence.
“Let go of me!” Came a loud voice down the hall. Kyle turned and looked over his shoulder. A girl – about his age, maybe a year younger – was being held by the arm, escorted into the room he’d just been taken out of. Kyle froze when they made eye contact. He knew her, from somewhere. He just couldn’t figure out when.
One of the guards slammed shut the door to his cell, cutting off the connection.

“Kyle, please, tell me about what happened after your friend Ulysses left.”
“His name was Kenny. I keep telling you that,” Kyle said.
“Still a sore subject, I see,” said the man, closing his eyes as if it were a major inconvenience.
“Yeah, sucks for you. Anyway, I’ll continue.”

“Kenny!” Kyle called, chasing after him. But the bustling convention-goers had swallowed him whole.
“Kyle, where’d he go?” Piott asked.
“I don’t know. He just went crazy and ran off,” Kyle responded.
Suddenly, the entire building blacked out, shutting up almost everyone.
“WHAT IS WITH THE BLACKING OUT,” Kyle shouted.
“HELLO, EVERYONE!” Said a deep voice over the intercom. One of the huge screens on the walls flickered on. At first it was dark, then two eyes, glazed red and crackling, opened, causing the congregation to gasp.
“I’m so glad we’re all here,” the voice connected to the eyes continued. It was as if the mystery person was using a voice filter.
“You’re probably wondering who I am or what I’m doing here. Well, I’m here to kill you all.”
Everyone gasped again.
“JUST KIDDING!” The voice said, laughing. “I’m not going to kill you. As long as you do exactly as I say.”
